Stupid Piece of Crap

Ever since we moved into this house we have had issues with the air conditioning. It has been awful. The guys that installed the unit were incompetent. It's not been working properly again and we had to call the air guys again. ( the competent ones) They think they finally found the freon leak that they had suspected for the last few years but could never find. So after Thursday we will hopefully not have any more problems. If we do we are just going to get a new unit.

Gettin' Crafty

I had time to start making some of the decorations for Lilly's birthday party. I lucked out and found this hat mostly already done and then added her name and the number one. It was a super time saver because I was planning on having to make the hat from scratch. I also made a banner that says "Happy Birthday Lillian" on it but didn't snap a picture. It turned out really great and was totally worth the hour and a half that it took to make. I'd like to thank my lovely daughter Lillian for taking a 3 hour nap in the middle of the day thereby making all of this possible.

Conjunctivitis

Yeah, if you didn't already know that's pink eye. In other words my eyes have a cold. I have viral conjunctivitis which is where the common cold virus decides to make its home in my eyes instead of nose or throat. It sucks! First of all, I have to wear my glasses which I hate. Also, my eyes are dry and scratchy feeling and have goo coming out of them. Yeah...goo. It's super gross. It's like my eyes decided they didn't want to be eyes anymore and decided to become noses instead. I've been applying warm washcloths and have tried not to touch them too much. I even put a little breastmilk in them because it is an antiseptic and could help. I mean, it couldn't hurt. Stupid cold.

Flintstone Baby

We had dinner with our friends Robyn and Todd and we discovered that Lilly likes ribs. I mean REALLY likes ribs. She got really upset when we ripped the gnawed bone from greasy little baby grasp.

Late Night Lilly Part 2

I took the first picture. The only light that was on was the bathroom light so it was hard to see her. Then, Derek took this photo with flash. It was a risk but she didn't wake up.

Late Night Lilly

Derek got home late tonight and didn't get to say goodnight to Lilly. So, I suggested that we go up to her room and watch her sleep for a minute. So we did. I love her so much!

Readin'

I went down to the high-school library last week to get myself something to read. It has quite a few newer books and someone had mentioned awhile ago that I should read "The Hunger Games" and it's easier than going to the actual library. Anyway, I FREAKIN' LOVE THIS SERIES! It is fast paced without sacrificing story and details. It has romance but not so much that you want to puke. It's setting is futuristic and a little sci-fi. And it's well written, especially considering it's meant for teenagers. I have found myself staring longingly at each book while I teach just waiting for a chance to crack it open and discover what happens next. I'm actually really sad that I'm almost finished with the third and final book of the series. However, they are coming out with a movie soon so that's exciting or depressing. You never know, it could suck.

A New Plant

I was able to pick up this awesome Calla Lilly at Kroger for only four dollars on sale. I placed it in our breakfast nook and I really like it there. I put it there because I thought it was a good location to keep the cats away from it. However, they have still managed to eat some of it when we weren't around. This is why we can't have nice things.

Happy!

Today Lilly didn't hate daycare! When I dropped her off this morning she even reached for one of the daycare workers while I was holding her! When I picked her up she was running around in the toddler room smiling. It was such a relief! (As a sidenote, when she saw me she gave me a big smile and started running to me. There was a doorway between us and a few toddlers were standing in it. When Lilly got to the doorway she waited for a few seconds for them to move and when they didn't, she shoved one out of the way to get to me. It was cute eventhough we don't want to encourage shoving.) I've been very worried about her and upset all week not just because she was unhappy while at daycare but also because she was even unhappy when at home. This week has been rough. But I think it was combination of a few things: having a cold, new environment and teething. They all teamed together to make a very unhappy Lillian and very distraught parents. So, hopefully next week will continue on with the happy Lillian. I don't think I can handle another full week of unhappy Lilly.

Me So Pukey

Derek and I had the opportunity to go out to dinner by ourselves tonight. It's an exciting and rare occasion. It was also unexpected. Neither of us was very hungry and, since I'm still recovering from a cold and laryngitis, I wanted soup. So, we decided to eat at a Chinese restaurant. Derek suggested a place that I had never been but that he said "has the best eggrolls in town". So, we went to Imperial. When we arrived there was only one other customer in the entire restaurant. It was 6:30pm. Ok...... I went to check out the buffet and it all looked pretty old but Derek grabbed a plate so I went ahead and grabbed one too. When I sat down to eat the less-than fresh looking chicken and broccoli I was already a little worried. Then I took a bite. My mouth was instantly filled with the flavor of old, lukewarm, possibly e-coli tainted chicken mush. I made the decision to stop eating that and went for an eggroll. After taking a bite of the supposed "best eggroll in town" I seriously questioned Derek's taste. But, then I looked at Derek who was putting on a brave show but appeared as disgusted with his meal as I did. He later informed me that he was warned to never eat off of the buffet and admitted that he had always ordered from the menu. (Forehead slap!)
When the waitress came by I told her that I wasn't too happy with the buffet and would like to order green beans and chicken. Derek however, knew the waitress and didn't want to offend or upset her and instead went on and on about how good his food was. This of course was very sweet of him to keep shoveling in possibly toxic and treacherous Chinese fair but made me look like an uber bitch.
The waitress then came out to say, that they were out of green beans so I decided not to order anything. I just sat there and drank my coke while watching Derek choke down the remainder of his offensive meal. It was mildly entertaining. After we left we stopped to get snow cones. So, I had a coke, a bite of possibly rancid chicken and broccoli and a snow cone for dinner and Derek may be spending the remainder of his evening clutching his porcelain pal but, we had a really nice time together and it definitely wasn't dull.

Holy Crap

It finally happened. We've been dreading this day. Lilly took a big ol' dump while being giving her bath. It was horrendous. And, I have to say, I was a little perplexed as to how we would go about cleaning it up. There were little chunks of undigested food, namely watermelon, dispersed throughout the watery pool of grossness. Oh, and then the tub got stopped up! But, by dividing the cleaning efforts, and Derek being very manly by deftly using some much needed drain-o, we were able to defeat the terrifying mess that was baby bathtime diarrhea.

Upset Lilly

Lilly didn't want to be in the highchair and began to throw a royal hissy fit. In her defense she has had a cold and therefore has probably not been feeling too well. I know from experience because I've had the dame thing and have now lost my voice due to laryngitis. But anyway...she was crying and snot started bubbling out of her nose. I HAD to get a picture for posterity. So I can show it to her when she is an adult for a laugh or two. I mean she had a giant snot bubble! But, I felt kind of bad when I looked at the photo after the fact because she looks so unhappy and I allowed her to be that unhappy for two seconds longer than necessary in order to snap this photo. But I guess feeling guilty about a lot of things kind of comes with the territory of being a mom even if you're a really good one.

Almost

We almost bought a new car today. We were very close eventhough we swore we wouldn't do anything but look. However, we resisted the impulse and decided to wait a little longer. However, we're pretty sure that we know which vehicle we will buy. We really like the Buick Enclave. It has a third row seat which we will need once we have two kids in car seats and is super roomy, luxurious and has a non-minivan exterior. Plus, if we get it used we can get a really good price. But, we have a while before we'll need it. We're not even planning on trying for another baby until March. So, go us! We exercised self-control!

Back to School Open House

Derek and Lilly came to the open house with me. Lilly was good most of the time and was very popular because she was soooo cute. I'm glad I don't have to go to work tomorrow because eventhough Lilly is feeling slightly better I feel way worse. Being sick my last weekend of summer break sucks!

Loading Up on Vitamin C

At around 2 today I started to feel as though I might be getting sick. I always start out with a scratchy throat that cannot be cured with a couple of swigs of water. Then, I began to feel very tired and now my nose is starting to run and my head feels as though it is inflated. Crap. And, when I picked Lilly up her nose was runny and she felt warm. When I put her to bed she had a very low-grade fever. Awesome. The joys of daycare. Hopefully high doses of vitamin C and echinacea will help.

Derek, Lilly and I got up early to go for a walk this morning. It was really nice outside and actually a little cool. We plan on doing this several times a week. It's nice family time and we get a little exercise in as well.

First Day at Daycare

Today was Lillian's first day at daycare. When I dropped her off she was so interested in the other babies and the new surroundings that she didn't even care that I was leaving. However, when Derek and I got there to pick her up she was definitely ready to go home. They said she had only slept for 25 minutes all day. I thought when we got home she would take a nap but she didn't. She didn't go to bed until 7pm. That means she was up from 6am - 7pm with only one 25 minute nap! She was actually in a really good mood once we got home though so that was nice. I hope she naps more tomorrow!

Impromptu Backyard Photo Session

I need a good photo of Lilly smiling because I am putting it on the invitations to her birthday party. So, I decided to try taking a few photos this morning before it got to hot. I didn't succeed in getting a picture of her smiling but some of the photos are allright. After taking them I played with them a little bit to make them prettier by applying filters. I'm still not sure I'm going to use any of them for her birthday invitation. I can always try again next weekend but I might not be any more successful and I need to get these invites sent out.

I thought her profile was pretty in this one. It makes her look more like a mini adult.

Butt shot! I couldn't resist posting it because it's all ruffled.

This one was actually inside the house. I was laying on the floor and she climbed on top of
me in an attempt to take the camera.

Would you like some grass?

Crinkly nose! So cute!

A New Seat

I ordered a new highchair for Lilly and it cane in today. I wanted a new one because I was unable to keep the other one clean. I mean it was GROSS dirty. And it's not like I didn't try to keep it clean. I did but, I felt like an unfit parent every time I set Lilly down in it. It was really pretty but completely impractical. This one is less pretty but not ugly and, it's called the "E-Z Clean". I tested it with spaghetti and I am happy to say it passed! It took all of 2 seconds to wipe clean! Lilly however was another story...

I made a crab tart for dinner tonight. It was so good. I had to restrain Derek in order to get this photo before it was devoured. Seriously, you can't see him but he's standing to the right of the stove holding a knife and anxiously hovering. This will be made again! Yum!
