Derek and I had the opportunity to go out to dinner by ourselves tonight. It's an exciting and rare occasion. It was also unexpected. Neither of us was very hungry and, since I'm still recovering from a cold and laryngitis, I wanted soup. So, we decided to eat at a Chinese restaurant. Derek suggested a place that I had never been but that he said "has the best eggrolls in town". So, we went to Imperial. When we arrived there was only one other customer in the entire restaurant. It was 6:30pm. Ok...... I went to check out the buffet and it all looked pretty old but Derek grabbed a plate so I went ahead and grabbed one too. When I sat down to eat the less-than fresh looking chicken and broccoli I was already a little worried. Then I took a bite. My mouth was instantly filled with the flavor of old, lukewarm, possibly e-coli tainted chicken mush. I made the decision to stop eating that and went for an eggroll. After taking a bite of the supposed "best eggroll in town" I seriously questioned Derek's taste. But, then I looked at Derek who was putting on a brave show but appeared as disgusted with his meal as I did. He later informed me that he was warned to never eat off of the buffet and admitted that he had always ordered from the menu. (Forehead slap!)
When the waitress came by I told her that I wasn't too happy with the buffet and would like to order green beans and chicken. Derek however, knew the waitress and didn't want to offend or upset her and instead went on and on about how good his food was. This of course was very sweet of him to keep shoveling in possibly toxic and treacherous Chinese fair but made me look like an uber bitch.
The waitress then came out to say, that they were out of green beans so I decided not to order anything. I just sat there and drank my coke while watching Derek choke down the remainder of his offensive meal. It was mildly entertaining. After we left we stopped to get snow cones. So, I had a coke, a bite of possibly rancid chicken and broccoli and a snow cone for dinner and Derek may be spending the remainder of his evening clutching his porcelain pal but, we had a really nice time together and it definitely wasn't dull.
